Key information:
- wenglor sensoric group have announced its acquisition of German company deevio.
- The software developer specialises in the automation of visual inspection processes.
- wenglor is hoping to enhance its knowledge regarding AI and data science.
wenglor is hoping to gain more knowledge in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI) and data science through its acquisition of deevio. Additionally, the smart sensor and image processing technology specialist hopes to create new opportunities regarding future innovations in the field of machine vision. Following the acquisition, deevio will remain in existence with Christian Vollrath, currently the Head of Computer Vision at wenglor, taking over as General Manager at deevio.
“We are delighted that, with the acquisition of deevio GmbH, we have this opportunity to further strengthen our expertise and capability in the field of machine vision,” said Rafael Baur, Managing Director of wenglor. “In recent years, deevio has developed a great deal of know-how in using AI and data science for image processing applications within the automation industry, which is a considerable advantage for us.”
deevio’s image processing systems (which combine AI, software and hardware) can be used as solutions for complex production applications, according to its developers. One way to utilise AI technology is to automate manual quality controls that can’t be solved using rule-based image processing, which can be particularly helpful in the automotive, packaging, and pharmaceutical industries.
wenglor recently released its B60 smart camera for image processing applications. “Our B60-series smart cameras with wenglor uniVision 3, wenglor’s integrated high-performance software ecosystem, have expanded the machine vision horizon in our industry,” said Vollrath. “The course is clearly set for further innovations in AI and image processing. This is also why I see such great potential in this move, because, with deevio, we are now able to expand on our commitment to sustainable solutions.”
Throughout the acquisition process, LSJ.Advisory supported deevio. The company’s CEO and Co-founder, Damian Heimel, will offer his support for an additional six months before wenglor assumes strategic management responsibility. While Co-founder, Dr Tassilo Glander, will continue as part of deevio’s tech team.
“wenglor is the ideal partner for us because it enables us to scale our AI technology and offer it to a much larger group of customers. We are very happy to be part of this innovative family going forward,” said Heimel.
