Krautkrämer RotoArray comPAct
Waygate Technologies has launched its Krautkrämer RotoArray comPAct, a portable roller probe for manual phased array (PA) ultrasonic inspection of large-scale composite materials. The new probe is expected to enhance existing technologies already active within the aviation, space exploration, and wind energy sectors.
Key information:
- Waygate Technologies launch its Krautkrämer RotoArray comPAct.
- The portal roller probe for manual phased array ultrasonic inspection claims to be ideal for companies within the aviation, space exploration, and wind energy industries.
- Additionally, the new probe aims to be cost-effective, easy to set up and have improved reliability, convenience, and portability.
Equipped with Baker Hughes' patented comPAct technology, the new product claims to provide lighter, simpler, and more cost-effective ultrasound (UT) phased array applications. It also aims to eliminate the need for an additional phased array device, due to the miniaturised electronics integrating the PA power directly into the probe.
Waygate Technologies' latest product compresses the functionality of phased array electronics, allegedly into a half-thumb-sized chip. This instrument claims to allow for a 1000-fold reduction in volume and a 20-fold reduction in power consumption compared to traditional PA instruments, which enables the instruments to be powered from a tablet or PC via a USB connection. Additionally, the integration of the electronics into the probe provides an improved signal-to-noise ratio which will improve the inspection quality.
“With the help of this industry-first technology, we aim to make phased array ultrasonic inspection easier, more cost-efficient and, most importantly, accessible to everyone in the industry,” said Miao Wang, General Manager Ultrasound at Waygate Technologies. “Krautkrämer RotoArray comPAct is our first product to be powered by comPAct and we look forward to bringing to market more solutions for broader applications in the coming years.”
The non-destructive testing solution provider’s RotoArray comPAct wheel probe combines the performance of a complete PA inspection system in a single probe. Through a Wi-Fi or cellular-enabled product, users can access an on-site network that will allow them to share and store data quicker, providing inspection insights faster.
According to the developers, the all-in-one solution is ergonomic and has a user-friendly design, which is ideal for beginners. The system also includes a step-by-step guide through the system setup, calibration, and manual inspection process. Additionally, the probe aims to provide reliable and convenient flaw detection, with a minimum weight, maximum portability, and cost-effective phased array ultrasonic inspections of large areas.
