Siemens AG and Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn) are set to collaborate to enhance digital transformation and sustainability relating to smart manufacturing platforms. The partnership will focus on manufacturing processes in electronics, information and communication technology, and electric vehicles. According to the duo, the end goal of the project is to create a scalable, seamless engineering and manufacturing ecosystem.
“We believe in the power of ecosystems to drive digital and sustainability transformation and scale technology,” said Roland Busch, President and CEO of Siemens AG. “Our partnership underscores our commitment to shape the future of electronics manufacturing. We will support customers with greater efficiency and speed due to optimised engineering and manufacturing workflows.”
“Foxconn is transforming into a platform solutions provider for smart manufacturing, smart EV, and smart city,” continued Young Liu, Chairman and CEO of Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn). “Joining forces with Siemens accelerates our digital transformation journey and opens up new possibilities for innovation and sustainability."
What can we expect from the collaboration?
The two companies have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that identifies a selection of key areas where the level of automation in Foxconn’s facility can be improved. These sections are:
- Electronics manufacturing services (EMS).
- Contract design and manufacturing services (CDMS), which is also known as Foxconn’s business model for electric vehicles.
Each company will experiment with a selection of Siemens’ factory automation products, like digital twin technology and artificial intelligence (AI), as the partnership works towards bettering the factories of the future. In particular, the Siemens Xcelerator platform is expected to play a key role in the research.
By leveraging Siemens’ technical expertise, Foxconn is hoping to improve its sustainability performance and reduce its CO2 footprint. Through the collaboration, the duo hope to establish transparent monitoring processes, as well as apply professional services and digital solutions.
"Electronics are the backbone of modern society, powering consumer goods to EVs and e-mobility solutions. Therefore, we are very proud to intensify our collaboration with Foxconn," said Cedrik Neike, CEO of Digital Industries and Member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG. "With Siemens’ domain know-how and leading portfolio in factory automation and software, we will accelerate the transformation of the electronics manufacturing industry and support Foxconn to achieve its sustainability targets."
"Siemens is a leader in providing digital transformation solutions," said Dr. Zhe Shi, Chief Digital Officer and Head of its Smart Manufacturing Platform at Foxconn. "Our deepening collaboration to build the ‘factory of the future’ in the AI era will enable us to provide topflight manufacturing service to all our customers."
