Industrial 3D sensor and AI-powered software provider Mech-Mind Robotics showcased its latest innovation in motion planning, 3D vision, and automated picking of random items, at Automate 2023 last week. Amongst the technologies, Mech-Mind exhibited its new 4K resolution 3D laser profilers.

Mech-Mind’s 3D vision and advanced robotics technologies aim to solve automation challenges including assembly, bin picking, depalletizing, piece picking, and quality inspection. During Automate 2023, the German company showcased the various capabilities of 3D vision by presenting how 3D sensors and advanced algorithms can fulfil the needs of the automation industry.

At the event, Mech-Mind presented its Mech-Eye LSR L industrial 3D camera, and how it can help solve picking challenges presented in various industries, including automotive and construction machinery. The system guides a robot to pick up shiny, reflective parts, even in hard-to-reach corners.
"Random bin-picking robotic systems often have difficulty clearing the deep material bins," said Cloris Xu. "By incorporating Mech-Mind's 3D vision capability, the bin can be cleared effectively and safely without collision with the bin or work cell."
Visitors saw Mech-Mind's 3D vision-guided piece-picking technology in action at the event. The system works by utilising advanced algorithms to handle an increasing proliferation of SKUs and pick new items without previous registration. Also, the system enables robots to perform multi-SKU picking, even in tight spaces and near bin walls, increasing accuracy and efficiency.
