General Inspection's VisionLab 3D measuring system
General Inspection is set to exhibit its VisionLab gauging system at the International Fastener Expo this October. According to its developers, the system can be used for first-piece inspection, SPC sampling, final audits, or 100% inspection using pick-and-place automation.
Key information:
- General Inspection has announced that it will be exhibiting its VisionLab gauging system at the International Fastener Expo in October.
- The gauging system is allegedly ideal for users looking to measure and inspect turned components.
- Recently, a Pennsylvania-based aerospace fastener manufacturer integrated a VisionLab system into its manufacturing process.
General Inspection claims its VisionLab system is ideal for users looking to measure and inspect turned components. The system should be used in the lab or on the shop floor, to allow engineers to fully utilise its capabilities and replace manual inspections.
The VisionLab creators claim the system is the only true 3-dimensional gauging system that provides complete part measurements in under seven seconds. The system works by measuring all profile features (including pertinent GD&T characteristics) and all thread features using patented optics and software algorithms. While an integrated thread database provides point-and-click programming.
Additionally, an optional end-view can also measure and detect defects on both ends of parts measuring features including recesses, inner and outer diameters, through holes and counterbores. Optional surface control can also be used to detect surface defects (e.g., bad plating, thread patch presence and quality, and measure knurling width, gap, and height). Another option available to users is an upper tooling and bit kit for uneven parts or parts with a recess drive.
According to General Inspection, VisionLab is easy to program as it has Windows-based software. Templates are then saved by part number and can be recalled for instant inspection.
The VisionLab is available in three models:
- VisionLab-75 – Handles parts up to 75mm in length and up to 35mm in diameter.
- VisionLab-150 – Handles parts up to 150mm in length and 50mm in diameter.
- VisionLab-X – Can be custom designed to fit most applications, if the user is looking for larger sizes.
