Renishaw's XM-60 data stitch measurement on a multi-axis machine
Renishaw has released the latest version (4.9) of its CARTO software suite, the successor of version 4.8. The latest addition will provide an analysis-based data stitch functionality for long axes, which can be used with Renishaw’s XM-60 multi-axis calibrator and the XL-80 laser system. The high-precision metrology providers will be demonstrating the CARTO software suite at the EMO Hannover 2023 exhibition in Germany this month.

The new data function in CARTO Explore claims to allow users of either the XM-60 or the XL-80 systems to analyse stitched data to international standards. In particular, data captured by the XM-60, using the target-based measurement mode, can now be easily stitched together and analysed for longer axes, according to its developers.
“Adding data stitch for the XL-80 laser enables measurement of long axes in several short sections,” said Dan Throup, Product Owner for Calibration Software. “This is particularly beneficial now short-range straightness optics, with better performance, can be used for longer axis measurements.”
This added capability allegedly allows users of the XL-80 laser system to break down measurements of longer axes, even those captured in noisy measurement environments, into smaller sections which can then be stitched together. Now that this function has been added, there should be a reduction in the environmental impact on each section, which should in turn increase the accuracy of the total measurement.
The CARTO software contains three applications, which are:
- Capturing and collecting laser measurement data.
- Exploring powerful analysis to international standards.
- The ability to compensate for quick and easy error correction.
