Aetina unveils AI solution for automated optical inspection systems with NVIDIA Metropolis for Factories

Aetina and NVIDIA Metropolis for Factories have come together to launch an AI solution set to enhance productivity in existing automated optical inspection (AOI) systems within manufacturing. By using the new solution, users can reduce their workload of reinspecting false rejects.

Aetina’s AI solution is based on NVIDIA Metropolis for Factories, which is a collection of AI-powered workflows designed to enhance AOI in factory settings. Using this technology, manufacturers and industrial solution providers can develop, deploy, and manage customised quality-control solutions. 

This latest AI solution release incorporates AI software from Aetina’s SuperEdge platform, NVIDIA AI Enterprise software suite, and Siamese networked-based AI models, powered by NVIDIA GPUs.

While AOI is effective in finding defective units, there is still a chance of misclassification of flawless products, which, in turn, leads to workers wasting unnecessary time evaluating perfect products during the assembly process. 

By using Aetina’s AI solution, the chance of units being classified as defective is said to go from 20% (with just AOI) to under 5% (approximately). The AI solution provides a reinspection process within production line AOI systems. It works by identifying non-defective units that AOI did not pass originally. Aetina’s latest launch works to limit misclassification and save the workforce time.

Aetina developed the NVIDIA Metropolis-based solution by leveraging the AI technologies of its parent company Innodisk. Now, the AI solution will be deployed in Innodisk’s factories for advanced electronics manufacturing.
