Eleven Dynamics' NEXOS 4.0 software in action at Audi Sport
During the measurement process of its complete BIW of cars, Audi Sport discovered an issue. The automotive manufacturer noted that the typical cells to measure the vehicle are double cells, which would result in double the cost and complexity. To resolve this issue, Audi Sport needed to find a simpler, more cost-effective, and robust solution.
The measurement process of the Audi e-tron BIW has to be conducted on both sides and in a narrow location. Additionally, the process must be completed by one robot, one sensor, and one turntable. The measurement process needs to ensure data is accurate and reliable while being produced quickly and efficiently. On top of all these requirements, high levels of quality also need to be continually met.
About Audi Sport
Audi Sport, formerly known as quattro GmbH, was first established in 1983 in Germany. The company now stands as the high-performance car manufacturing subsidiary of Audi (which is itself a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group).
Additionally, the brand name is well-known in various motorsport categories from World Rally Championship and DTM to Le Mans and Formula E. Audi is also set to join Formula One from the 2026 season onwards.
Eleven Dynamics identify the NEXOS 4.0 as the "perfect" solution
Having understood Audi Sport’s dilemma, Eleven Dynamics AG presented the automotive manufacturer with a solution. The automation and metrology specialists advised that Audi Sport should adopt the NEXOS 4.0 software. The NEXOS 4.0 platform works by simulating a problem, and then finding the perfect cell layout.
NEXOS 4.0 software
Eleven Dynamics claim its software is compatible with any robot, sensor, or cell configuration, making it incredibly diverse when completing measurement services. Additionally, the software can adapt to the needs and requirements determined by Audi Sport. This is a major benefit, especially because Audi Sport has a large selection of measurement tasks that must be completed.
Key features of the NEXOS 4.0 software:
- Automates routine tasks like data entry, reporting, and analysis.
- Provides real-time data on production processes.
- Integrates all manufacturing processes into a single platform.
- Features predictive analytics capabilities which can help users identify patterns and trends in production processes.
- Improves visibility and efficiency.
- Reduces time and the risk of errors occurring.
- Includes advanced inventory management features like real-time tracking of raw materials and finished goods.
- Provides quality tracking metrics like defect rates and scrap rates.
Audi Sport sees improvements in efficiency and accuracy in its measurement processes
Following the installation of the NEXOS 4.0 software, the results were said to be “immediate and impressive.” Audi Sport found that the software had significantly reduced the complexity of its measurement processes. Additionally, all data provided was collected quickly, accurately, and reliably.
NEXOS 4.0 has also implemented automation into Audi Sports’ processes, which has further enhanced the automotive manufacturer’s measurement services. In addition to the improvements in data collection and automation, Audi Sport also witnessed the added value of the solution in real time, which reassured the manufacturer of its effectiveness.
With the NEXOS 4.0, measurements were absolutely compensated automatically, with data then directly streamed to PolyWorks. The software creators claim the solution is so easy to use that there is no need to retrain any engineers or operators to use the software.
