MKS Instruments has unveiled new services from Newport OCB (Optical Component Business), Newport Custom & OEM Optical Subsystem Solutions. The semiconductor manufacturer’s latest launch aims to integrate Newport’s already established capabilities in manufacturing, optical component design, and opto-mechanical design.

Key information:

The new services aim to provide continuous or discreet spectral analysis systems for a variety of OEM instrumentation applications. These may include life & health sciences, semiconductor, and industrial analysis. MKS Instruments claims the new solutions will provide OEMs of analytical instruments and spectrally-based diagnostic equipment with improved optics. Additionally, alleged benefits also include access to a global assembly network, a simplified and tightly-managed supply chain which takes you from prototype to production, as well as support for the entire lifecycle of the products.

"Most optics companies specialise in either opto-mechanical design or in producing a single type of optical component," said Dan Lawrence, General Manager of Newport OCB. "Newport, with over 75 years of experience, excels at design and production of opto-mechanical assemblies as well as a broad range of optical components. Those capabilities provide a strategic advantage to vertically integrate critical optical components while engineering and optimising the most demanding optical sub-assemblies to deliver system performance for OEMs. Newport's global manufacturing footprint enables ease of integration by Richardson Gratings; high-performance mirrors and optical filters; precision optical mounts; and motion control systems leveraging an extensive catalogue portfolio in addition to custom-engineered capabilities."

The Newport Custom & OEM Subsystem Solutions, which MKS Instruments claims is designed to optimise optical system performance, features the three key following services:

  1. OEM Optics – With advanced metrology and testing, high-performance optical filters (from UV to NIR), precision diffraction gratings and optical components, replicated mirrors, and thin film coating capabilities to optimise system performance.
  2. Features an optical, opto-mechanical, electrical, and system design – Which can develop custom designs, with the goal of optimising both end-to-end sub-assembly design and system performance.
  3. Manufacturing, assembly, and testing – With services including the ability to assemble and test at the company’s facilities, component fabrication and sourcing, controlled clean room assembly, supply chain risk mitigation at the component assembly level, and US-based ISO-registered facilities with ITAR and IP control.
