Using Siemens' PLR, TPR will create an absolute digital twin.
True Position Robotics (TPR) has announced its collaboration with Spirit AeroSystems on project DELTA (Digitally Enabled Low-Cost Technologies for Aerostructures). The project will be split into two different parts.
The first half of the project will see engineers integrating TPR’s robotic drilling system into the digital thread. Utilising Siemens PLM, TPR’s robotic guidance technology will start by creating an absolute digital twin.
The drill is a low payload, low energy, and concession-free solution, making it an ideal solution for the affordable automation of aerostructure small assemblies (with hole sizes up to 10 mm). Additionally, the project also focuses on ¼” countersunk holes. The solution is more likely to provide the true position compared to aerostructure design book tolerances with countersink CpK >4.

During the second half of the project, the integration of Polyworks Data Loop will take place. The system is a web-based server that can be used in operations, conformance, and can be integrated into the digital thread to share learning across the business. Using 3D scanners, TPR will integrate the database with various devices and demonstrate the digital “fit” back into the PLM system.
