RMP24-Micro inspecting watch workpiece in Chiron micro machine tool.
Renishaw has announced the full availability of its RMP24-micro, a small wireless probe for machine tools. Combining compact dimensions with enhanced metrology, the probe is ideal for precision manufacturing applications.
The RMP24-micro is designed to be compatible with compact machines that manufacture high-value, high-precision components. Additionally, users in the medical, dental, watchmaking, and micro-mechanics fields will benefit from the probe’s abilities. The lobing performance and repeatability features of the probe also allow for tight measurement tolerances, with its short length and radio communications ensuring that the solution can be used in confined spaces.

Key features of the RMP24-micro:
- The probe measures 24 mm in diameter and 31.4 mm in length.
- Delivers measurement repeatability of 0.35 µm 2σ.
- During the probing process, the micro-kinematic mechanism allows for ultra-low trigger forces. This minimises the risk of errors occurring whilst enhancing measurement accuracy.
- The solution has an operating range of up to five metres.
- Employs a 2.4 GHz frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) protocol which provides improved power efficiency and allows it to coexist with other radio sources (e.g., Bluetooth and Wi-Fi).
“Since we first previewed the product at EMO Hannover last year, we've had an overwhelmingly positive reaction from the market,” said Will Fenn, Product Marketing Engineer for Renishaw’s Machine Tool Products Division. “So, we're delighted to announce the full release of RMP24-micro and eagerly await showcasing it at upcoming exhibitions throughout 2024 and beyond.”
