Orbex has announced MSP as its new supplier to help with the automation of component production. These components will be used in orbital launch services, as it closes in on completing its first launch. As the British company moves towards becoming fully operational, Orbex is making strides by creating new partnerships with various suppliers. Orbex is working on the Sutherland Spaceport where small satellites will be vertically launched into Low Earth Orbit using the Orbex Prime microlauncher.
With the introduction of MSP’s technology, Orbex hopes to achieve enhanced productivity levels, reduced errors, and less waste. MSP will aim to meet these expectations by automating key areas of the CNC machining process. One of the key lasting benefits of automating these processes is that by minimising the risk of errors, and therefore waste, MSP can help its partners achieve their net-zero strategies.
“We are pleased to join Orbex at such a crucial stage in its journey,” said Tony Brown, Commercial Director at MSP. “We already work with a US-based space supplier, F1 teams and aerospace companies manufacturing complex carbon-fibre components, but this will be our first in the UK Space industry which holds extra importance. As Orbex’s campaign progresses, our products will support them to push the boundaries in terms of the accuracy and complexity of components they can produce”.
“With a strong focus on quality and sustainability, suppliers are a critical part of our journey to launch and each agreement – such as this one with MSP takes us one step closer to delivering our first launch from Sutherland Spaceport,” added Phil Chambers, CEO at Orbex. “As the team begins to ramp up we look to work with suppliers that can help us to optimise our processes and automate key elements of production.”
