Mitutoyo’s Surface Measure line receives first non-contact line-laser sensor

Mitutoyo America Corporation (Mitutoyo) is set to launch the first non-contact line-laser sensor in its Mitutoyo Surface Measure product line, the SM1008S. The precision metrology instrument provider’s latest solution is looking to “disrupt the surface measurement processes across a wide range of industries” with improved accuracy and precision. The solution can also be used in near-line and in-line shop floor applications.

The SM1008S combines traditional sensor technology and a propriety Mitutoyo optical system to provide a versatile performance including 2D profile measurements and “comprehensive” 3D dimensional inspections.

Key benefits of the SM1008S:

  • Improved precision and repeatability with an accuracy of 20 µm and a Z repeatability of 0.5 µm, providing consistent measurements.
  • Utilising the sensor’s onboard software, the system has a variety of measurement tools including height, width, volume, flatness, pattern matching, gap & flush, optical character recognition, barcode reading, and multiple defect detection tools.
  • A robust design with IP67 protection level supporting automated measurements with high-speed profile acquisition (up to 10 kHz).
  • The system can be used in a variety of sectors including electrical, electronics, semiconductor, automotive, food, medical devices, and pharmaceuticals.
