Lumotive's MD41 Development Kit.
Lumotive has announced the integration of its MD14 Development Kit with Sony Semiconductor Solutions’ IMX459 and IMX560 SPAD depth sensors. The announcement came at CES 2025. The collaboration aims to help supply transformative capabilities within the automotive and industrial markets, making systems safer and more efficient across various applications.
Designed for industrial and automotive applications, the Sony IMX459 and IMX560 sensors leverage the company’s SPAD technology to provide users with high-precision and high-speed distance measurements. Once paired with the MD41 Development Kit, the duo hopes the sensors will improve flexibility, efficiency, and scalability when used with 3D sensing systems.
“The integration of Lumotive's MD41 technology with Sony's IMX459 and IMX560 sensors marks a pivotal advancement in the 3D sensing industry,” said Dr Sam Heidari, CEO of Lumotive. “Our joint effort addresses the distinct needs of the automotive and industrial sectors, providing customers with a single, adaptable solution that delivers unmatched precision and reliability. This partnership underscores our commitment to driving innovation and setting new benchmarks for safety and efficiency in critical sector applications.”
Benefits of pairing MD41 and the Sony IMX459 sensor include:
- Enhanced environmental awareness with robo-taxi surround sensing capabilities.
- Retrofit trucks and vans with the solution to improve safety and efficiency levels.
- Improve precision and reduce risks in construction and agricultural settings.
Applications were pairing the MD41 and the Sony IMX560 sensor will excel including:
- Autonomous Guided Vehicles (AGCs) and Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) to provide warehouse automation.
- Aerial inspection and surveying with drones.
- Perimeter security and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) will improve infrastructure safety and traffic flow.
The optical semiconductor technology provider’s MD41 Development Kit utilises Light Control Metasurface technology to provide users with enhanced precision and versatility in 3D sensing. The Kit works by allowing users to establish a programmable field of view that can target specific areas in real time. Additionally, the solution utilises Lumotive’s Open Development Platform (ODP) which improves the real-time performance.
