LK Metrology
LK Metrology reduces the carbon footprint of CMMs with EcoAir.
LK Metrology introduces the latest environmentally friendly innovation, EcoAir, to its product family. Designed to lower the solution's carbon footprint, EcoAir can either be incorporated into the coordinate measurement machine (CMM) supplier’s new machines or retrofitted into those already carrying out measurement and inspection duties in factories, quality control rooms, or metrology bureaux. To upgrade existing systems, said solutions must already be fitted with an LK NMC300 controller, which can also be retrofitted.
EcoAir is connected to the air filter set, the solution’s automatic shut-off unit then works to interrupt the supply of compressed air to the CMM’s air bearings when idle. This helps to reduce consumption by up to 95%, resulting in energy and cost savings. Inactivity periods that lead to shutdown can be adjusted to one-minute time periods. Compressed air flow can resume automatically when the CMM is required.

This solution can help manufacturers meet regulatory requirements relating to energy efficiency and support corporate social responsibility initiatives while also providing financial benefits. Over the years, LK Metrology has also reduced the thickness of the air-bearing film needed to maintain smooth, accurate movements of the machine elements over their guideways. This helps to cut air consumption when CMMs are in use while also offering three and a half times higher stiffness compared to standard air bearings due to the wrap-around design. As a result, users will see improvements in the accuracy of measurements due to higher resistance to dynamic forces, particularly relating to tactile scanning or using long probes.
