Interspectral partners Freemelt.
Interspectral has announced its collaboration with electron beam powder bed fusion (E-PBF) specialist Freemelt. Through the partnership, the duo will combine Freemelt’s electron beam additive manufacturing (AM) capabilities with the real-time visualisation and advanced monitoring features of Interspectral’s AM Explorer platform.
The pair hope to enhance precision, scalability, and efficiency within AM, specifically regarding high accuracy and reliability-reliant applications. By focusing on this area, users should receive help with defect detection, improved process control, and more reliable and scalable serial AM through AI-driven tools.
“By combining our expertise in real-time data visualisation and anomaly detection with Freemelt’s cutting-edge E-PBF technology, we are set to deliver unprecedented levels of process control and reliability to the AM industry,” said Isabelle Hachette, CEO of Interspectral.
The AM Explorer will deploy AI-enhanced automatic anomaly detection and closed-loop monitoring in Freemelt’s AM systems. Utilising backscatter image data, the platform can apply AI models to detect process irregularities in real time. This will allow operators to adjust and stop production when required, providing an efficient and data-driven approach promoting quality assurance.
What is E-PBF?
Electron beam powder bed fusion has become increasingly important in AM, particularly where high precision, complex geometries, and superior material properties are present. Leveraging E-PBF, users can produce intricate metal parts with improved accuracy. This makes the technology ideal for the defence, medical technology, energy, and industrial manufacturing sectors. However, due to the advanced real-time monitoring and anomaly detection demands industries are facing, achieving reliable and consistent results with E-PBF is challenging.
