INFICON has developed a leak detector that is specifically designed to be used in leak testing systems for the industrial mass production of lithium-ion and sodium-ion battery cells. The ELT Vmax leak detector works by testing the leak tightness of all battery cells filled with liquid electrolytes in all formats, whether that is a prismatic, round, or button cell.
The leak detector utilises INFICON’s patented method of direct electrolyte leakage testing which works by detecting electrolyte leakages from filled cells in a vacuum chamber. However, the ELT Vmax is specifically designed to be used in mass-production environments and provides the same levels of accuracy and sensitivity as the ELT3000 PLUS.
Key features of the ELT Vmax:
- Identifies the smallest leaks down to a helium equivalent leak rate of 5∙10-7 mbar∙l/s.
- Provides quality assurance in fast-paced battery production environments.
- The detector is designed to be installed in 19-inch racks, making it easy to integrate into a mass battery cell assembly operation.
- Features limited waiting time as the system can operate in a near-constant measuring mode.
- The adjustable gas mode offers greater flexibility for the user.
- ELT Vmax is fully compatible with the E-Check 2.0 platform.
“When developing the new ELT Vmax, INFICON focused on providing maximum flexibility and ease of integration into individually designed leak-testing systems,” said Thomas Parker, North American Automotive Sales Manager at INFICON. “Combined with the automation know-how of our integrators, the ELT Vmax enables individually designed leak test stations that provide consistent quality assurance on every single battery cell at the pace of production.”
