Hyundai Mobis has established an AI system at its Changwon plant for quality inspection of EPS.
Hyundai Mobis unveils its artificial intelligence (AI) system that utilises sound to enhance quality inspection levels in production lines. By leveraging AI, the system can analyse specific sounds that are generated during product inspection to provide quality assurance. The automotive supplier completed a pilot implementation of the system at its Changwon plant in June.
Differing from generative AI, which relies upon language for Q&A tasks, acoustic AI remains largely untested in manufacturing settings. Hyundai Mobis’ new system works by developing algorithms that can assign meanings to specific sounds to improve production judgements.
“This initiative marks a pioneering example of process innovation not only in the automotive sector but across the global manufacturing industry,” said Choi Nak-Hyun, Vice President and Head of Digital Transformation at Hyundai Mobis. “We will continue introducing differentiated AI-based technologies for production, R&D, and improvements in work environments.”
Looking forward to the future, Hyundai Mobis plans to expand its quality inspection system and utilise the system in other component production lines. Specifically, the automotive manufacturer is looking to test its capabilities in braking system production lines that naturally generate noise.
