GelSight Mobile software platform receives 3.8 update
GelSight has unveiled the latest upgrade for its GelSight Mobile software package. Designed to enhance the users’ experience, the 3.8 upgrade also features new surface analysis capabilities like coloured heightmaps in the 2D live view and custom report annotations. These new features will hopefully allow the user to make more informed decisions regarding surface characteristics.
Additionally, with an upgraded API, the software platform has enhanced capabilities with GelSight’s partners’ robotics and system integrations. The new upgrade also improves the user interface, making the experience more reliable and smoother.
The platform provides an enhanced, visually intuitive analysis view with new coloured heightmap overlays after a surface scan is captured. With the new upgrade, custom notes for PDF reports can be added. Said notes allow for better annotations of GelSight’s surface analysis reports, which can better organisations' communication skills, especially with partners and suppliers.
“Our portable GelSight Mobile system offers a superhuman touch sensor with a micron-level resolution to enable reliable, repeatable surface inspection, measurement, and analysis,” said Dennis Lang, Chief Business Officer at GelSight. “GelSight Mobile 3.8 makes it easier for engineers, metrologists, roboticists, researchers, product managers, and other users to derive data-driven insights on surface characteristics with more powerful capabilities to communicate their findings.”
APIs were introduced by GelSight earlier this year, the technology enables users to integrate the company’s tactile sensing capabilities into factory automation processes, robotic systems, and OEM products sold as a complete solution. With the new update, the platform offers a live camera view and surface contact state indication capabilities for API integration. More advanced users of the solution can utilise GelSight’s GitHub Repository has been upgraded with the latest API features.
“The new updates in GelSight Mobile 3.8 help users better understand the surface characteristics they are inspecting to quickly make more informed, analysis-driven decisions,” said Youssef Benmokhtar, CEO at GelSight. “For example, the surface contact information provides a real-time indication of whether a GelSight device has made contact with a surface, making it easier to improve robotics integrations using our latest APIs.”
