Cognex Corporation (Cognex) has expanded the capabilities of its In-Sight SnAPP vision sensor by implementing a counting tool which utilises artificial intelligence (AI). The In-Sight SnAPP platform’s new tool speeds up and improves the accuracy level of counting tasks, automated assembly verification, and quality checks.
Additionally, the AI-powered tool enhances ease-of-use capabilities and improves accuracy levels in challenging counting conditions. Challenging variables that could negatively impact quality assurance levels include counting objects of a similar size, reflective or distorted nature, and objects with varying contrasts and shapes.
Utilising image-based training, guided setup, and embedded AI capabilities, users with varying skill levels will be able to use the system. This eliminates the need for additional training or complex setups.
Industries that could utilise the counting tool on the In-Sight SnAPP solution:
- Food and beverage – To count the number of food products in final packaging.
- Pharmaceutical – To verify the number of vaccine vials or pills in a blister pack.
- Automotive – To count modules in an EV battery pack tray to avoid recalls.
“Using cutting-edge AI technology and our easy-to-use vision sensors, we’re now providing our customers with a counting solution that not only enhances accuracy and efficiency but also simplifies the user experience,” said Lavanya Manohar, Senior Vice President of Products at Cognex. “We’re excited to see how this innovation will benefit manufacturers worldwide and continue making automation more accessible.”
