Nikon launches large-volume X-ray and CT system

Nikon has announced the launch of its high-performance, large-volume X-ray and CT system, the VOXLS 40 C 450. The product was developed jointly between Nikon and Avonix Imaging, LLC, and will be able to support a wide range of applications including the production of lithium-ion battery individual cells and modules of electric vehicles.

The VOWLS 40 C 450 uses X-ray and CT scanning to implement high-accuracy measurement, confirmation of internal shapes, and defect analysis through non-destructive inspection of various components. Nikon’s latest release boasts a height of 1,415mm and a diameter of 800mm, and what is thought to be the largest maximum imaging area for a single-piece cabinet in the industry. The product also features the ability to mount two X-ray sources, allowing the machine to support various applications.

Due to the imaging size and non-destructive inspection features of the VOWLS 40 C 450, Nikon says the product supports the manufacturing and production of automotive and aerospace parts. In particular, it is expected to support the production of lithium-ion battery individual cells and modules of electric vehicles.  

The Japanese imaging giant developed the VOWLS 40 C 450 in collaboration with Avonix Imaging, LCC, based in the U.S. The company, set to be acquired by one of Nikon’s US subsidiaries, is involved in the production, sales, and services of X-ray and CT Systems. Further collaboration between Nikon and Avonix Imaging is expected in the future, as Nikon expands its product lineup.
