Artec 3D unveils its new high-precision 3D LiDAR scanner, the Artec Ray II

Artec 3D has collaborated with Leica Geosystems, which is part of Hexagon, to develop its latest 3D LiDAR scanner, the Artec Ray II. The 3D scanning technology developer’s new product boasts improved accuracy, a variety of new features, and is 10x faster than its predecessor, the Artec Ray.

The Artec Ray II is designed to digitise large spaces and objects, from wind turbines and aeroplanes to forensic scenes and archaeological sites. And when combined with Artec Leo, digital twins of these objects and spaces can be created. When paired with Artec Leo, the Artec Ray II can combine long-range and short-range scanning capabilities in one software. The 3D LiDAR scanner can capture a full dome in 1.7 minutes and at a 3D point accuracy of 1.9mm from 10 metres.
Additionally, the scanner offers metrology-grade precision, with an angular accuracy of 18” and range accuracy of 1.0mm+10ppm. Data captured by the Artec Ray II can be combined with data from other Artec 3D scanners via the Artec Studio software, which can lead to the development of comprehensive 3D models.

The new scanner also includes a variety of new features set to improve the accuracy, speed, and usability of the scanner, with a higher quality of results. Artec Ray II boasts an automated targetless field registration, a double scan feature for the automatic removal of moving objects, and real-time scan alignment.
Additionally, its touchscreen mobile interface is safeguarded against rain and dust, allowing the Artec Ray II to be used both indoors and outside. The scanner runs off two batteries at a time but comes with four and a charger (with the ability to hot-swap) to ensure that scanning sessions can run uninterrupted.
