2022 re-measured

As this year draws to a close, it's only fitting to have a look back at the last few months of MQ and show off some of the highlights, with our top six favourite stories. 

Having started as the editor for MQ back in July, it really hasn't been all that long for us to grow, but we certainly have grown a lot. From our website being recognised at events to garnering much more attention online, it's clear that there is a positive growth. It's no wonder, when you consider the wide variety of topics I have been fortunate enough to cover these last few months. These six stories are only some of my favourites, and many of the articles I have written were completely unexpected topics for me. 

A massive thanks from me to all our readers. I hope to meet more of you at events in the new year and I look forward to seeing what innovations will come to light in 2023! -Tomaz 

Supersonic measurements 

A very exciting case study presented itself in the form of Verisurf's software supporting Boom Supersonic's efforts to bring back commercial supersonic flight. I edited the video above as a summary of the case study, but I highly recommend reading the article for additional details. 

CT-ubiquity 

As a personal first, I was asked by my colleagues to write a feature article for TCT magazine. For this article, I interviewed the folks at Lumafield about their affordable, accessible industrial CT scanning services. It was a genuinely interesting topic, which was a great way for myself to learn about interviewing skills and writing an article as a feature for another publication, with a lot of surprising insights into what CT technology can bring to the table. 

Additive Quality

In this case study, 3DPRINTUK gives an insight into the quality and validation of an AM-focused company, highlighting the importance of ensuring optimal manufacturing outcomes by full scrutiny from start to finish.

Emira: the most accurate Lotus ever

Another fascinating case study focused on Lotus sports cars. Specifically on how LK Metrology's custom-built CMM helped to make the newest model, the Emira, the most accurately-built Lotus yet. 

Metrology in Industry 4.0

We also took a look into the future, discussing the increasing role of metrology and precision inspection in Industry 4.0 and the future of manufacturing. Ranging from the increasing accessibility of CT scanners in industry to the exponential growth of precision in conventional measuring solutions, this is a short deep dive into what the future could bring us. 

High on pressure, low on time, no light, no electricity and full of water

Finally, a captivating case study on how a 3D scanner proved to be the perfect tool for an extremely challenging measurement problem. With limited time, no light or electricity and an environment filled with water, a French company managed to scan the inside of a hydroelectric dam's draft tubes quickly and accurately.
